THE Peter Davis Memorial Golf Day was held on Saturday, October 5, at the Harden Golf Club, with 28 players enjoying the great sunshine and great golf. As they do every year, the Leven family travelled from Sydney for the weekend, along with other members of the extended Davis family to support the cause and to honour their very much loved uncle - Peter.

Geoff Buckland and Peter Beal cooked up a BBQ for the players - thank you to both men for a job well done. Tim Davis assisted in keeping up the fluids to the players and raised an extra $70 for Can Assist. Thank you Tim for your great effort. Thank you to the Harden Country Club for again supporting the day and the great staff who go out of their way to help.
The bowls day started off on Sunday morning at the Bowling Club with 38 players, again in brilliant sunshine.
Again the extended Davis family played bowls, along with many locals.
Many thanks to the Bowling Club and their members for supporting the day, so well once again.
An auction was held after the bowls yielding $304. Wally Leonow donated a bowls bag for the club to raffle in aid of Can Assist - John Spencer was the winner and donated it back to be auctioned with $340 being raised in total.
Derek Heywood was the eventual owner of the bag. Thank you Wally for your generosity and both John and Derek.
Genevieve Weston donated a television for raffle and this was conducted over the two days, with a total of $640 being raised; Bob Randell was the lucky winner. We are very grateful to Genevieve for her generosity, and to all who supported the raffle.
With costs taken out the final total raised for the weekend was $2009 for the local Branch of Can Assist.
We cannot run these events without the support of both the Harden Country Club and Harden Bowling Club, along with donations of prizes from businesses such as the Commercial Hotel and individual donors.
So if you have nothing to do on the October Long Weekend next year, please come along and support the cause, even if you don’t play either sport, they are a great day out.
