THE Harden/Boorowa's Landmark Under 13s travelled to the Junee schoolboys carnival last weekend and came away victors for the Under 13 A age group.
A tough draw first up against the much bigger Griffith Black and Whites had our boys ready to avenge last year's loss to the same team.
After a great start, Jack Hinds showed again his speed and strength to run 50 metres to score our first try. Nathan McCarthy's conversion had us on top early six points to nil, a lead we kept until half time.
The Griffith lads came out and stuck it right into our boys, posting two unconverted tries. Nathan kicked us level again with penalty shot from in front. To our boys credit, they toughed it out determined to hold on with the time almost up and the frustrated Griffith boys giving away penalties.
Nathan kicked his second penalty, to give the Harden/Boorowa a much deserved victory, 10 points to 8.
Our second game was against Group 10 club Cowra Magpies. With a victory here ensuring we came away with the pennant for our division, our boys hit the ground running.
With relentless defence and some magnificent team tries, our boys went out to a 44 points to nil lead into the second half. A consolation try from Cowra was met with two more replies and a final score line of 52 points to 6, thus ensuring the boys were winners of the Under 13s A Division.
A magnificent effort from the whole team was witnessed by our hardy supporters. It would be wrong to single out any individual as again every single player played his heart out and deserved a big pat on the back.
The boys now turn their attention back to the competition with a grand final reply against Temora on the agenda this week.
