THE countdown is on to the largest fireworks show ever to be staged in the region and if you love fireworks then you must make a note on your calendar for Saturday, September 1.
This combined community event and pyrotechnics trade show has become one of the most popular family events in NSW. People travel from afar to enjoy an afternoon of music and entertainment and an evening of fireworks demonstrations with a spectacular fireworks finale.
The event is produced by Fireworks Australia who have a factory in the region. They supply specialised products to other fireworks companies, film and television, touring productions and major events Australia wide. The fireworks finale will showcase the latest in high tech effects during a massive pyro musical sky show.
The gates open at 4pm and you will be entertained by Brass’ere a nine-piece New Orleans style jazz band who will meander through the crowd as they play.
A large range of amusement rides from Tony Joes Amusements in Wagga will be there to entertain young and old alike. Children can also have their face painted and obtain an air brushed tattoo.
Plenty of stall holders will be there to tempt you to purchase some locally handmade products including jewellery, masks and soy candles. There will also be a huge range of food and drinks on sale.
Many of the stalls are run by Gunning community groups raising funds for their organisations featuring the Lions Club, Gunning Woodturning group and the Church ladies group with a cake stand There will also be delicious Thai food, Dutch pancakes and the usual hot chips and fast food on sale.
This event has become a joint community and commercial event. The community groups of Gunning are all offered the opportunity to raise funds for their organisation’s and a large donation is made to the Gunning District Community & Health Service - which is is a non-government organisation which provides clinical and home support services to the community of the former Gunning Shire.
The event is put on with the assistance of the Upper Lachlan Shire Council and Upper Lachlan Tourist Association. The fireworks demonstrations will start at approximately 6.30pm and the attending pyro technicians will have an opportunity to note the various effects of each fireworks for their
use in future fireworks displays. Both indoor and outdoor fireworks will be featured in the demonstrations. At approximately 8pm the skies over Gunning will light up with the colour and excitement of some of the largest fireworks on sale in Australia. The expertise of pyrotechnician Martin Brady will be on display as he choreographs this pyro musical spectacular finale.
After the fireworks are over the amusement rides will continue on until 9pm when the gates will be closed for another year on this amazing festival.
Be sure not to miss this wonderful family event. Bring along chairs and blankets and dress warmly - as September can still throw on a cold night. You will be entertained and delighted by this festival and fireworks display. The entry fee is $10 per adult and $4 for children under 14 or $25 per family. A donation from the proceeds will go to the Gunning District Community Health Service.
