SouthCare volunteer coordinator appointed

JENNY O’Brien has been appointed as a chapter coordinator to head up a new team of Snowy Hydro SouthCare volunteers.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare chief executive officer, Owen Finegan made the announcement when he was in town recently as the guest speaker at the Murrumburrah Harden Rotary Club change over dinner.

This team of volunteers will assist Snowy Hydro SouthCare by raising the profile of the service in the Harden-Murrumburrah area.

The volunteers in Harden-Murrumburrah will be of great assistance by providing representation for the fundraising office which is based in Canberra. Volunteers are the arms and legs of the service - reinforcing to the public the positive impact the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter has on their region.

Volunteers are also responsible for helping to raise funds for the helicopter service, by holding various fundraising events, selling merchandise and placing donation tins throughout their area.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare CEO, Owen Finegan said he pleased to welcome Jenny O’Brien as a member of the team of Snowy Hydro SouthCare volunteers based around the region.

“Jenny O’Brien is a loyal supporter of the helicopter, she hosts tins in the Commercial Pub, and organises events to raise funds for the service,” he said.

The Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter performs an average of two missions a day, with 19 per cent of missions to the north encompassing Young, Yass, and Harden-Murrumburrah.

Outgoing Rotary Club president Brendan McKay presented Mr Finegan with a $500 donation for rescue service at the change over dinner. Last year the Rotary Club gave a $1,000 donation to the rescue service.

The dinner was attended by Rotary district governor Ian Simpson and his wife Jean, as well as Gloria Schultz, Hume Liberal candidate Angus Taylor and members from the Young, Boorowa and Yass Rotary clubs.

The new board members for the Rotary Club for 2012/13 are: president, Kerrie Provan; president elect, Pat O’Connor; secretary, John Horton; treasurer, Stephen Woodhead; adminstration Marg Campbell; public relations, Ron Spellman; membership, Robert Fitzpatrick; foundation, Grahame Taylor; new generation, Lyn Douglass; public officer, Jim Wright; and sergeant-at-arms, Don McFadyen, David West and Pat O’Connor.
