CLUB championship matches continued to be played over last weekend with a minor pairs and two major pair’s matches being decided. Results were as follows:

Saturday, minor pairs

Maurice Muller and Ian West defeated Jake Fisher and Wally Paulsen 27/11.

A very easy win for Maurice and Ian who trailed 4/5 after five ends had been played but from then on they were never in danger of defeat as they raced away for an easy win. Jake and Wally tried hard, but were outclassed on the day.

Sunday, major pairs

Neil Hines and Bob Owen defeated Terry Ricketts and Brian Madden 25/19

It was a very good match with all players playing well. Neil and Bob got away to a good start to lead 13/5 after seven ends. However, over the next six ends Terry and Brian had rounded them up and raced to a four shot lead of 17/13 with eight ends to play.

Neil and Bob struck back and for the next five ends kept Terry and Brian on 17 while they raced away to a six shot lead 23/17. With three to go Terry and Brian were still in with a chance when they picked up two shots on the nineteenth end to be within four shots of Neil and Bob at 19/23.

Neil and Bob put them away when they picked up two shots on the last two ends for a comfortable win.

John Curtis and David Walker defeated Tony Fisher and Maurice Muller 17/15.

It was another good match with all players in good form. There was never anymore than a couple of shots difference between the two teams throughout the match. With four ends to go Tony and Maurice led by one shot 13/12. Over the next three ends, John and David picked up five shots to lead 17/13 with one end to play making it very difficult for Tony and Maurice, who needed five shots to win.
