New walkway bridge to be opened

THE new walkway over the Murrumboola Creek, to be known as the Shire Connection Walkbridge, will be officially opened on Wednesday, July 4.

The old walkbridge was washed away in the 2010 December floods.

The new bridge has been co-funded by a $100,000 donation from the Sutherland Shire, which has a sister city relationship with Harden. Part of these funds have also been used to repair flood damage at the rear of the museum.

The Sutherland Shire was going to send the money to Queensland to help out in response to the Queensland floods, but because of the relationship between the two shires, they decided to send it to Harden after shire officials visited Harden.

At the time the donation was described as an act of unprecedented generosity.

The new walkway has been called the Shire Connection because of the connection between Sutherland and Harden.

Sutherland Shire mayor Carol Provan will be in town for the opening.

The ceremony will start at 11.15am.

The Sutherland Shire haas assisted the Harden Shire in many ways over the years, through heling with things such as providing staff, advice on difficult planning issues as well as help on governance issues.
