Mortimer Shield winners

LAST week, Murrumburrah Public School’s League Tag girls headed to Wagga to compete in the Mortimer Shield finals.

They played their first match against Hay Public School, which was a tough game. The Murrumburrah girls scored the first try and then held Hay out for the remaining of the game to win 1/0. The girls’ defensive effort during this game was spectacular.

Winning this game moved the girls into the grand final against Tumut Public School. Again this was an extremely close game with many players from both sides displaying their talent and team work. It was one all at half time.

During the second half two brilliant tries by Emma Manwaring led to the girls winning 3/1. Everyone played with determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The Mortimer Shield organisers selected Claudia Flanery as the ‘Team Player of the Day’, while Emma Manwaring received the prestigious, ‘Rick Keast’ medal for Player of the Day.
