A lovely Christmas dinner was enjoyed prior to the auction of some great items.
Items such as four four day passes to the Bathurst V8 races were sold for $1,500 and the Armorall Cap signed by Jamie Whincup was sold for $550. Both items were donated by Blake Friend, marketing manager for V8s.
Other items were all sold to very keen bidders yielding excellent prices. John O’Connor was the auctioneer on the night and worked very well to gain this great outcome.
Among other people to donate items were Mark (Lol) Johnson, Trevor Critcher, Nina Horton, the Summerfield family, the Leven family, Brogan Friend, K&L Constructions, Jenny & Neil James, Helen Proos, the O’Connor family, Melissa Ings and the Commonwealth Bank.
The major raffle of a leather recliner was drawn with Sarah Bunt being the lucky winner. A very huge thankyou to the local family who donated the chair to Can Assist.
The Phat Boyz entertained for the night with a very enthusiastic crowd. Everyone present had a wonderful time dancing and catching up with friends who returned to Harden for the night.
Following a suggestion from Ron Spelman for Maxine Davis to sing with the Phat Boyz, her “friends” gathered $504.30 with a further donation of $100 taking the total to $604.30, she stepped up to the mark for Can Assist and belted out “Eagle Rock”. Just goes to show the dedication to Can Assist by Maxine and her “friends”.
But the biggest thanks for the night must go to Lyn Friend and Wally Poulson for their hard work at organising the auction items and suggesting the fundraiser.
Lyn has had indifferent health over the last three or four years and Wally, Brogan and the rest of Lyn’s family have all been so supportive of her. It was just wonderful to see Lyn, Wally, Brogan and her family and friends all coming together to have this fundraiser, and enjoying the night.
The Phat Boyz donated a guitar for auction, which Wally bought. He then, unbeknown to Lyn, had the guitar signed and presented it to Lyn at the end of the night. A brilliant end to a fabulously successful and happy night.
There are still some donations coming in and a small number of auction items still outstanding, however the final figure will be around $13,000 - thank you Harden! A great effort.
The next fund raising event will be a wood raffle on Thursday, August 8, in the main street. If you are able to assist with selling tickets please contact Carol Barker 6386 2414.
The next meeting of Can Assist will be Wednesday, September 4, at the Community Health Rooms at 7pm. This will not be the AGM; this will be held on October 2.
