The company’s regional general manager South Eastern, Phillip Green, said that the Australia Day functions across the Harden- Murrumburrah district have become a firm favourite in the local events calendar.
“Right across the country, Australia Day has become an iconic day for celebrating what’s great about being an Australian and with the huge array of Aussie-themed events planned for Harden, there will be no better place to be to feel part of this great national day,” he said.
“With a number of our employees living and working in the Harden-Murrumburrah area, Essential Energy is pleased to be able to provide our continued support of events such as the Australia Day festivities,” he said.
Co-organiser of Harden’s Australia Day celebrations, Lorraine Brown, said: “Essential Energy’s support of the day is greatly appreciated.
“Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, the volunteer groups and individuals who provide the entertainment on the day ensuring our community can enjoy a great day out celebrating being Australian.”
Harden Murrumburrah’s Australia Day celebrations will begin with a Breakfast in the Park at Newson Park, starting at 8am.
People attending the celebrations are being asked to bring their own chairs and rugs to sit on.
The day will feature a speech by ultramarathon runner Greg Donovan and the announcement of the town’s Australia Day Awards.
Mr Donovan will be using his speech to raise awareness about the need for funding for type 1 diabetes research.
Local musicians Steven Pinney and Jack Byrne will be providing the musical entertainment.
Following these activities, Mayor Chris Manchester and Mr Donovan will attend the Wombat celebrations for the village’s street parade, sausage sizzle and tractor pull.
