Tennis talks

19 Aug, 2010 12:57 PM
The Harden Tennis Club recently held its AGM with Dianne Peisley returned as president, Narelle White, vice president, Karen Steel, secretary, Lyn Percival, treasurer, John Alan, June Howe, Kai Steel make-up our committee.

I would like to acknowledge our outgoing vice president Barbara Sargent. Barbara has been a tireless member of the tennis club for many years, involve in the last upgrade of our courts and overseeing the general running of the club. She has held the position as president and vice president and has been a wonderful help to myself in a transition roll and her knowledge and resources are invaluable. Barbara is still an active playing member of the club and we all give her a huge thankyou and wish her well in her many ventures.

Also on club news the last round of the Medibank JD series was held in Temora with the Champions of Champions [Invitational only] being played this Sunday at Griffith. These are a great opportunity to see our region’s best upcoming tennis players. Our club has had some local players participating in this series but, unfortunately didn’t make it to the championship round, players include Brad Sharman, Jess and Nicki Sargent, Scott Peisley, Martin and Jeremy Brown and Fin Cowden.

These children have been coached by our very own John Alan. A huge thank you to John for his tireless work in coaching these children, as John volunteers all his time [4 days a week] and we are a very fortunate club to have someone like John, dedicated to coaching our children.

The junior open events continue with Yass and Hay scheduled for September, for entries to these events contact Dianne 6386 2844 by September 10.

Winter comp is coming to a close with the weather interrupting our semi-finals night. Rob Chamberlain’s team of Michael West, Dean McGrath and Elli Anderson just missing out on a finals spot by only eight points.

Phillip Peisley’s Team won over Harvey Jones’ team to go straight through to the final, while Kai Steel’s team were victors over Jaryd Brown’s team in a close fought match with points even until the last games.

Steels v Jones this week [weather permitting] for a place in the final. Good luck to everyone.

Nominations are now open for our mixed spring comp. Entries close on Tuesday so please ring Lyn 6386 3003 or Karen 6386 3695 or Narelle 6386 2737.

We are always looking for subs so if anyone would like to fill in to play occasionally please ring and put your name down, your sure to get a game.

On a final note club memberships 2010 /2011 are due and payable to Lyn 6386 3003. Included with memberships is a Rebel Sport discount card.
