Last Saturday, the Harden Red Devils played host to Boorowa at the earlier time of 1.30pm to enable the Boorowa lads to return home for the Boorowa Picnic Races.
Boorowa was by far the better team on the day which showed in the final score of 51-7.
The first half was nearly all Boorowa with 29 points being scored.
The second half started with the Devils getting more possession and neither side could break through the others defence until midway through the half when the Devils flying fullback Matthew Scofield raced away to score a great length of the field try right under the posts on a freshly mowed patch of lawn.
This try was made possible after receiving a perfectly timed pass from Dan Kerrison. Matthew converted his own try and the Red Devils were on the scoreboard with 7 points.
Unfortunately it didn’t take long for Boorowa to answer with a try of their own followed not long after by another. They then went on to score two late tries to take the full-time score to 51-7.
Thank goodness their kicker had an “off day” converting only three of their tries.
The Devils were making the mistake of not playing to the whistle for much of the game even though some rule interpretations left the players and spectators alike scratching their heads.
Injuries to a couple of our front rowers saw them a bit quieter than last week. Hopefully they will be back to their best soon.
Points for the day went to Matthew Stadtmiller, Sam Woods and Mathew Schofield. These three didn’t stop trying, others to have good games were Kyle “fancy feet” Murray, Ashley Jones and the Captain/Coach Brent Loader.
Winger Jarrad Stevens played well particularly in defence and Josh Davis never let the side down when he came on during the second half and will be a handy addition to this team.
Players’ player this week was Matt Schofield.
This week the boys go on a road trip to play Taralga.
