Devils go down in thriller

27 May, 2010 08:08 AM
The Devils came oh so close on Saturday when they went down 17-15 to the Tuggeranong Vikings at Roberts Park.

Several handling errors in the first 10 minutes set the tone for the game as it was a stop start affair.

Clint Stevens scored the first try of the year for the devils and was duly congratulated.

The scoring went back and forth, tit for tat with Jamie Cantrill slicing through for a great solo try.

John Ryan scored down the left hand side after some good team work but Harden was unable to kick a goal and that proved the difference in both teams scoring three tries.

The line-outs were off again this week with both jumpers and throwers to blame and this will need to be rectified for future games.

Overall the boys tried very hard but some disciplinary problems again got us offside with the referee. Swearing at him doesn’t get you any favours.

Points went to Adam Walsh three John Ryan two and Clint Stevens one.

The Devils game plan looks to be solid and staring to work for them and it will be put to the test against last years undefeated premiers Boorowa this weekend at home at Roberts Park.

There are two more home games in a row after this week’s game.

Saturday night saw a good roll up at the Harden Country Club with one former Devil found doing some gardening in his front yard at 1am and had to be asked to cease until the sun came up the next day by his wife.

The $50, 100 Club was drawn with first prize of $2000 going to the Fisher family of Harden.

Second prize of $350 went to Luke Stevenson, who we hope to see back on the field soon.

Third prize of $150 went to Scott Chesworth.

Thankyou to everyone who bought a ticket as without fundraisers like this the club would not operate.

So don’t forget to get down to Roberts Park this Saturday and see the Devils take on top team Boorowa.

Entry is free and there’s a canteen available, kick off is at 2.30pm.
