HAWKS NOW TOP OF THE TABLE

HAWKS NOW TOP OF THE TABLE

22 Jul, 2010 08:16 AM
The Harden Hawks played Goulburn Exchange last Saturday at McLean Oval and had a 32-10 victory.

The Hawks now lead the table after Binalong’s narrow loss to Bungendore.

The George Tooke table has been included this week as there is a lot of interest in the results now as the top sides will be playing each other in the next few rounds.

The Harden Hawks will need to lift their game in the next few weeks after another lethargic start.

It was 20 minutes before Luke Brown made a good break to send brother Todd in for an unconverted try. However, it was Goulburn who scored next to lead 6-4 at the break.

The Hawks started the second half well and after seven minutes Chris Beal scored a great individual try which Peter Adam converted to lead 10-6.

From this point the Hawks took control of the match and further tries to Joe Dyball, Todd Brown, Peter Adam and Chris Beal and three conversions to Peter Adam saw the Hawks run out 32-10 victors.

Tyson Astill was voted player’s player, Chris James received man of the match and Jarrod Sharman received the coach’s award.

The boys kicked on for a great Red Faces and Trivia night at the Harden Country Club.

Proving he is a man of many talents, coach Nathan excelled singing Shania Twain’s epic ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’. Jarrod Sharman and Andrew Jones played father and daughter Cyrus singing the boot scooting anthem ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ and the grand finale was the Full Monty with Chris Beal, Chris James, Nathan Schofield, Lewis Grange and Peter Adam. Their mothers must have been so proud!

Thank you to Rodney Cooper and Scott Collins for looking after proceedings.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, the committee passed a resolution opposing the construction of a Telstra communication tower at McLean Oval. Following an article in the Harden Express on July 1, several people have expressed concern. The committee’s view is that unless Telstra and council can guarantee these towers are safe for the future health of our community, mobile phone towers should be kept away from community sensitive locations such as schools and sporting grounds. Why take the risk? The committee has sought consultation with council on this matter.

This week the Harden Hawks play the Gordon Highlanders at McLean Oval.

The game commences at 3pm following junior league games between Harden/Boorowa and Temora.

Until next week, go the Hawks. CH
