Last week Murrumburrah Public School was represented by Emma James in the Riverina Team at the NSW PSSA Girls State Touch Championships at Coffs Harbour.
The weather was hot in Coffs Harbour with Emma noticing the difference between Murrumburrah and the coastal weather!
After successfully trialing at district and regional levels earlier this year Emma joined the team comprising of 14 girls from all parts of the Riverina including Gundagai, Griffith, Wagga and Temora.
Emma played link, which is one position in from the wing and is part of the attacking play.
This is also an important defensive position with Emma, at times, having to cover two opposing team members.
This talented player takes on the challenges and quietly, but with a lovely smile, said she scored two tries, one of which was in the semis which took the team to a two all draw taking play into a drop off.
Emma found the three days inspiring and challenging and really enjoyed the opportunity to compete at this high level against players who are the best in the state.
Over the three days the team played 13 matches, winning nine games losing one and drawing three, to make it into the semi-finals.
In the semis the Riverina team played Sydney West with a result of two all at full-time.
To decide a winner the teams went into drop-offs with Sydney West scoring one try, making it 3-2.
The Riverina team came fourth out of the twelve teams participating and were commended on their teamwork, sportsmanship and competitive play.
Congratulations Emma on your success at the state touch carnival.
