Bound for glory at state finals

29 Jul, 2010 08:07 AM
Harden Bowling Club No5 Pennant team will be competing in the 2010 BCiB State Pennant Finals at Cootamundra Country and Coota Ex-Services for the first time this weekend.

Team representing all 16 zones within the state, grouped into four pools of four with the highest ranked team in each pool progressing to the semi finals on Sunday afternoon

Harden is in Section Three with Harbord (Zone 9), Molong (Zone 5) and The Oaks (Zone 6) all on the agenda to play.

They play Molong in round one on Saturday morning, The Oaks in round two Saturday afternoon and Harbord at Coota Ex on Sunday morning.

Tom Apps is playing in the tournament and said that it is a great achievement for Harden teams to make it into the championships.

“We are taking 15 players, with three teams of four and three reserves so it should be a good few days,” Apps said.

“We won the South West district pennant and then went on to win the Zone 8 Pennants which made us eligible to qualify for the state play off.

“We have been playing well but the weekend will be a good social time for everyone,” Apps said.

The event will attract more than 200 players (including reserves and managers) and a similar number of spectators to Coota and region for the weekend with all accommodation in town booked out and a number of players staying in Harden, Young and Temora.

We wish the Harden-Murrumburrah teams all the best.
