When La Vedette crossed the line to win the Young Picnic Cup last Saturday she had a group of owners from three surrounding towns cheering on from the sidelines.
The five year old mare had previously won two races at Kembla Grange and one at Nowra for former trainer Gwenda Markwell, and was purchased at the Scone Broodmare sales this year by John and Helen North and James and Jocelyn Daly and shares were also leased to a syndicate consisting of Noel Sargent and Robyn Smith from Harden, Charles Donoghue of Cootamundra and Howie Horselman of Albury.
The local connection does not end there as La Vedette is trained by Tricia Anderson from Anderson Racing Stables in Wallendbeen and ridden by Tricia’s husband and current Approved Riders Champion, Robert Anderson.
In the Young Picnic Cup La Vedette settled in just behind the leaders and after turning for home finished strongly to win by four lengths.
La Vedette will next race in the Young Professional Cup on October 24 and then will compete on Melbourne Cup Day at the Rosehill Picnic Races.
If all goes well La Vedette could feature in the Harden Picnic Races which is on Saturday, November, 21.
