Summer social golf comp under way

15 Dec, 2011 03:21 PM
THE social summer teams’ comp got under way with a great number of entries ready to contest this year’s hot weather season.

The scores sizzled on the course with 60 players turning up and turning in their cards for their teams.

It was also noted that a good number of nominated players were also on the course yet did not put their card in, but there will be no hyphenated names mentioned will there Graham.

Eleven teams have nominated so far, each with eight members, however Ranga’s Crew ably led by Jack Quinn is still in need of two more players to complete their complement.

Another team, the “Executive Suite” led by our fearless leader Mark Douglas is probably not aware of his casual nomination at the cocktail party two weeks ago yet he and his good wife, daughter and son-in-law, along with dad, Fred, need to now get out and show their style as they have been teamed with Sue, June and Robyn to form quite a formidable team.

As was mentioned before, the scoring was hot with some of the usual summer burglars out in broad daylight, chopping up with the course with remarkable style.

This week there were two types of approaches in the high scoring teams; there was the consistent medium scoring regular golfers in the Debateables who amassed the weeks leading total in a shared and even handed manner; or there were the big lead out scorers with teams that just added their one or two points to the whale in the group like Squirrel Grippers, Beached Whales and the In & Out Thingies (my best compromise for the mirror vision name supplied).

The table is as follows after week 1:

Debateables 29.5

Squirrel Grippers 24

Beached Wales’ 23

In and Out Thingies 22

Ranfga’s Crew 20

Pink Panthers 15

TBA 14.5

Parkers Smash 13.5

Sturgiss Painters 10,5

Pagey’s Gut Punchers 7.5

Executive Suite 3

The spirit of the comp is about getting some golfers and non-golfers together for a weekend whack.

Handicapping is kind and the object is about working a sweat up before enjoying a laugh with your crew in the Club over a refreshing drink.

So team nominations are still welcome. Get your 9 holes in between Friday 2pm and Sunday 1pm, drop your card and money in at the Bar and the rest will be looked after.

This week’s individual winners were;

1st - Jason Pollard - 15 points (club voucher for $25)

2nd - Michael Quinn - 12 points (2 balls) c/bk

3rd - Rob Barron - 12 points (1 ball) c/back

Congratulations you 3, the handicapper has saluted you.

Next week will be the second round before a two weekend break for Xmas and New Year. We will be playing the back 9 this week so the first time you play this 9 for the weekend you are live.

Please put your team name and the 9 you played on the back of the card when handing it in, and do not forget to sign, date and have a markers signature on your card.

The revised handicaps are now on the noticeboard for this weekend’s play. We look forward to seeing you all at the Club.
