Mixed foursomes championships at half way mark

15 Jul, 2010 09:09 AM
Last Saturday eight lady golfers played a stroke event for a trophy donated by June Spencer.

As is not unusual these days, trophy donor June, returned the day’s best score with a nett 67 but kindly passed her trophy to Ev Shea who shot a 69 nett. June’s consolation was winning a ball in the ball competition as did Maryanne Fitzgerald.

In conjunction with the individual competition a best ball par event was held for a club med NSW competition. The winners of this qualifying round were Ev Shea, Maryanne Fitzgerald and Beth Kuhn who will contest the district final at Cootamundra in August.

The men on Saturday played a stroke round for the McPake brother’s trophy. Ben Glover showed conditions do not affect ability with a fine 73-4-69 to win the trophy. Ball competition winners were Robert Bates, Peter Steinke and Tam Kennedy.

Sunday saw a pleasing field of 11 pairs contest the first of two rounds of the 2010 Mixed Foursomes Championship and trophies donated by the Harden Butchery. (Thanks Chris).

Winners of the trophies were Craig and Tony Filmer with a good foursomes score of 87-18-69. Ball competition winners were Peter Steinke and Ev Shea nett 69 ½ , Eric and Beth Kuhn nett 70 and Ron Page and Betty Grace nett 71.

Leaders at halfway in the Championship are Peter and Jeanette Elliott 81, Peter Steinke and Ev Shea 85, Ian Clarke-Bruce and Maryanne Fitzgerald 87, Craig and Tony Filmer 87.

Last weeks mid-week competition saw 18 rounds played with David Walker recording a win with 42 nett. David’s handicap has been reduced to 12 after a four shot reduction. Congratulations to Ben Glover who had a hole in one on the 10th.

Next Saturday both the ladies and men will hold stableford events with the ladies competing for a club trophy while the men play for a trophy donated by Ian Kinlyside. On Sunday the final round of the Mixed Foursomes Championship will be played for the Ron Oakman trophy.

It would be great for all first round pairs to turn up again for the second round.
