Kate Menz stars as summer comp returns

13 Jan, 2012 09:04 AM
KATE Menz has exploded into 2012 with a stunning 27½ nett to record an easy victory on the front nine in round three of the 2011-2012 summer golf competition, held last weekend at Harden Country Club.

Kate’s gargantuan score has ensured that she has saluted the handicapper to the tune of at least five shots, but it did lift her team, the Pink Panthers, up within striking range of the competition leaders.

This despite only three of their team playing. Ev Shea’s five points helped the team immensely in this regard.

Ben Irving and Tyson Ings came second and third respectively with eight points and 7.5 points. With Ben and Tyson both from the Sturgiss Painting Crew this has ensured that the Painters have whitewashed the opposition this week with a whopping 28 team points. Graham and Michelle helped this admirable team result by also contributing valuable points to the team total.

Just behind the three weekly winners there were a bevy of other respectable scores including a few on seven points and several more on five and four points. This good scoring and a good team turn-out has really helped teams like the In & Out Thingies, the Delta Debateables, and the Beached Whales sustain their top four ranking in the team scores.

Big movers this week were Ranga’s Crew, Sturgiss Painters and Pink Panthers, who are snapping at the heels of the top three teams.

Unfortunately our players from the teams “TBA” and “Executive Suite” must still be on holidays or the message did not get out to come play golf. Big things are expected from these guys next week.

The table (team, points, progressive score) is as follows after week 3:

In & Out Thingies, 15, 66

Delta Debateables, 12, 59.5

Beached Whales, 16, 57.5

Ranga’s Crew, 22, 54

Sturgiss Painters, 28, 51

Pink Panthers, 18.5, 47.5

Parker’s Smash Repairs, 9, 43

Squirrel Grippers, 5, 41

Pagey’s Gut Punchgers, 8.5, 33.5

TBA, 0, 21.5

In the individual stakes, the winners of this week’s prizes are as follows:

1st and club voucher - Kate Menz (12.5 pts)

2nd and 2 balls - Ben Irving (8 points)

3rd and 1 Ball - Tyson Ings (7 points)

So now that all of the Christmas and New Year cheer is but a memory (or not if it’s the few extra pounds around the middle), what better way than to start the year fresh with a burning golfing ambition.

The course is an absolute picture and due to recent rains is better than it has presented in summer for many a year.

The club is still selling ice chilled lemonades for after your round and with so many players, the tall stories about players rounds and the shot that got away make for good sport in the lounge bar or on the balcony, after you play.

This upcoming weekend we set our sights on the back nine.

A quick reminder to players to check the handicap board in the club as a few cards seemed a tad confused on how bad the handicapper has saluted them.

Also, if players can make sure their card is signed and dated, only one card is entered for the weekend and the team name is on the back of the card, then life for this one man band can be made a tad easier.

I look forward to seeing you at the links this weekend.
