LAST Saturday and Sunday lady golfers from Yass, Canberra, Queanbeyan, Binalong, Cootamundra, Temora, Gundagai, Boorowa, Junee, Young, Moruya, Tumut and Harden competed in the annual Harden Pharmacy sponsored two lady ambrose.
While the girls were not blessed with ideal weather only four of Saturday’s 68 starters did not return for Sunday’s play.
Our local ladies performed well with the majority managing to collect a trophy.
Saturday’s 18 hole event winners are as follows: ‘A’ grade scratch C.Taylor and Y.Wathelex, ‘A’ grade nett M.Fitzgerald and Ev Shea. ‘B’ grade scratch M.Sykes and J. Bray, ‘B’ grade nett A. Preston and L. Hufton.
Sunday’s 18 hole ‘A’ grade scratch winners were S. Crowe and J. Boland with the ‘A’ grade nett going to M. Salmon and P. Woodbury. A couple of locals won the ‘B’ grade scratch with Jenny Mitchell and Beth Kuhn gracing the podium while the nett winners were M. Hanrahan and S. Holmes.
The 36 hole championship winners in ‘A’ grade were L. Stensrud and K. Smith from runners-up J. Elliott and H. Pearce. The 36 hole nett winners were J. Finkle and J. Jenkins with L. Harding and M. Blizzard being runners-up.
‘B’ grade 36 hole scratch winners were R. Anderson and D. Slater from M. White and C. Millar.
The 36 hole nett winners were S. Stewart and P. Walker with the runners-up being J. Pockley and L. Manning.
It is hoped that with kinder weather conditions next year this tournament will continue to grow in popularity, as the organisation and staging of the event are first class and a credit to all involved.
The 12 hole midweek stroke continues to attract the attention of around the two dozen or so golfers each week.
Taking his overdue turn to collect last week was Jim Wright who shot a nett 35 to narrowly defeat Fred Douglass and Greg Heycox, one of whom will have a victory in the near future.
This weekend the course will be closed to all social golfers as a capacity field of 204 men will contest the Boral sponsored Australian two man ambrose championship.
If the weather forecast is accurate the men will experience totally different conditions to what the ladies endured.
