HARDEN golfers are being encouraged to take part in the Young Emergency Services Golf Day which has a $10,000 cash splash prize.
The golf day has been set down for Friday, March 30, at the Young Golf Club, the annual fundraiser will support the Young and District Education Foundation and the family of Willem Corkery.
The day is traditionally organised by members of the local emergency services who play alongside local golfers - professional and amateur - all keen to tee off for a good cause.
Paramedic Nathan McEvoy claims the ambulance service put both the police and firies to shame last year.
“There will be of course some rivalry between the emergency services again this year - we do have a minor title to defend,” he laughed.
Sport aside, participants raised over $10,000 for the Moore family and the Renal Unit.
“We hope this year we can go bigger and better,” Mr McEvoy said.
“If the community get right behind it we can host up to 200 golfers on the day,” he added.
To net the $10,000, all you need to do is hit a hole in one on a nominated hole, which players will be told about on the day.
As for the charities - the Young and District Education Foundation provides scholarships for students moving from secondary education in the Young Shire to tertiary studies in larger metropolitan areas. The Corkery family were also selected after their two-year-old son Willem was diagnosed with leukaemia late last year.
Organisers are accepting sponsorship from local business houses - by sponsoring a hole on the course or by offering a prize for the day.
It is $60 per person to play. To register contact Phil Cartwright at the Pro Shop on 6382 1543.
