The people who organised, and the people who supported last weekend’s golf and bowls “save the club” campaign are to be congratulated on the huge success the weekend turned out to be. There were more than 100 golfers, 40 bowlers, about 170 guests at the “drinks party” on Saturday. No doubt about the old adage that people bring people, it really is true.
Many people who were unable to attend sent in substantial donations and it all added up to considerable financial help to the club.
Trevor Nuthall and Christine Saunders and their hard working committee and members of the club committee who were involved are to be thanked and congratulated. All the people who helped in other ways by donations or assistance on the day are also to be congratulated.
There were plenty of trophies up for grabs and the first four place getters in the men’s 18 holes comp were Anthony Ockwell, Jim Haylock, John Flanery and James Shannon. In the nine holes event Ross Flanery, Rob McColl and John Hufton claimed the trophies.
The men’s nearest the pin trophies went to Damien Graham (2) Peter Wall (4) and John Porter (14).
In the ladies events the first four winners in the 18 holes event were Sally McNally, Denise Jago, Monica Field and Cathy Shannon.
Ros Graham, Jo Brunskill and Chris Southerland claimed victory in the nine holes event. While the nearest the pin winners were Elisa Bennett, (2) Jo Miller (4) and Denise Jago (14). The team winners were Ethel Lee, Monica Field and Antony Ockwell.

40 bowlers got off to a rather late start due to the fact that some players cancelled out after the teams had been arranged which necessitated a re arrangement of the players, and consequently it was so cold that it was decided 12 ends were quite enough. The winners were Allan Pigram, Travis Pigram (who again gave his Dad a lesson) and Will Good while the runners up were Dicky Winwood, Yvonne Langfield and Dimity Middleton
The golf on Sunday was won by Peter Curtis and Helen Curtis while Ethel Lee won the nearest the pin.
Once again, congratulations and thank you to all those who organised and supported the weekend.
