Ceeney shops for a new handicap

26 Jan, 2012 02:19 PM
ROD Ceeney has shown the field what he has been doing in his retirement by converting his golf practice prowess into points in round five of the Harden Country Club summer golf competition.

A sizzling 41 off the stick for a nett 30 has ensured that Rod’s eight points were just enough to beat the rest. Ably supported by John Hawkins’ return to form and Geoff Bates and Dave Walker’s solid rounds has meant that the Delta Debateables are still in the lead bunch and not back in the pelaton.

A three-way countback ensued for second and third on 7.5 points, with the unlucky person being our guest star from Young Mrs Cheryl Minehan. Cheryl has won something though, a new handicap for next week after her sterling round.

In second place last weekend at the other end of the countbacks was Tom Darmody proving that marriage will not affect your golf. His fellow Squirrel Gripper Rob Barron was third on 7.5 points also. The Grippers had a big week with multiple points also being scored in their team by Nathan Schofield, his brother Matt and also Todd Elliott. The weekly team score of 25 could have been anything had their other three team mates played.

Other scores of note this week included Toni Filmer in the Gut Punchers, Ben Brady and John Quinn from the Whales, the Motorist in the In & Outers, Bernie and Beth in the Parkers Smash Repairs team, Pat Walker for the Panthers, and Aunty June in the Executive Suite.

Well done gang, your handicaps have a fresh new look about them.

We are now at the half way point in this competition and there are two distinct groups.

We have the Beached Whales, the In & Outers and the Delta Debateables in the lead group and at an average of 15 to 20 points behind is a group of five teams all ready to pounce.

The positions in the field are changing drastically every week proving how important that a total team turnout greatly assists your team’s chances of scoring well.

In the individual stakes, the winners of this weeks prizes are:

First and club voucher - Rod Ceeney (8 pts)

Second and two balls - Tom Darmody (7.5 points) c/bk

Third and one ball - Rob Barron (7.5 points) c/bk

Round six is now set for this weekend. We had 61 come out and play this last weekend which still leaves 27 of you in your armchairs. This upcoming weekend we set our sights on the Back nine.

The time sheet nomination form for the second round of the Scott Fuller Shield at Temora is on the bar. If pairs can nominate soon, it will be a shotgun start at 10am on January 29 in Temora.

It is a mixed medley event so it can be boys, girls, or mixed. Grab a partner, bung your names in and let’s get to Temora on Sunday.
