AMCAL Ambrose a hit for the ladies

AMCAL Ambrose a hit for the ladies

19 Sep, 2008 12:23 PM
The Inaugural Two-Lady Ambrose Championships were hosted by the Harden Country Club last weekend and was a resounding success. Following the success of the men’s 2 day event, the ladies decided it was worth hosting their own event to showcase our fantastic golf course and also encourage visitors to our town. By securing some fantastic sponsorship from Mark Douglass and the AMCAL Pharmacy the event was advertised far and wide and the ladies dream was soon turning into reality.

A total of 94 golfers from as many as 10 different clubs braved the weather conditions over the weekend, which was as varied as some of our scores. The contrast of a very summer-like Saturday turned to stormy-Sunday as it left the ladies guessing as to what was approaching down the fairways. With the weather conditions in consideration the committee made the decision to turn the event for the weekend into a 27-hole event with 18 holes contested and completed on Saturday and only 9 holes on Sunday, it was clearly visible that some did get wetter than others.

Major Prize for the weekend winners were as follows:

27 hole Championship winners - Helen Spencer and Nancy McGregor -109

27 hole nett winner - Gail Lynch and Barb Beveridge - 101

27 hole B grade winner - Carol Windsor and Liz Harding - 124

27 hole nett winner - Sandra Holmes and Maria Hanrahan - 104

A range of AMCAL prizes were also awarded to all runner-ups in both grades, individual day winners for both days and also nearest the pins for both days, leaving everyone certain to go home and attempt to make themselves look and feel younger.

Everyone in attendance on the day heaped praise on and were most impressed with the condition of local course, the way the weekend was organised and of course the magnificent sponsorship and support behind the event. Once again many thanks to Ben and the golf course staff and volunteers, the Country Club and its members for all their hard work, all the lady golfers, Ralph Hawkins from the Bendigo Bank and especially to Mark and Julie from the Harden AMCAL Pharmacy for their time and efforts put into preparation of their sponsorship trophies.

The Harden Lady golfers will continue with this initiative next year and from all accounts it will be bigger and better next year. Thank you everyone for your support and participation.
