Top award for tireless efforts

22 Apr, 2010 07:38 AM
The inaugural Eventing NSW Award of Recognition is an acknowledgment to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to facilitate eventing and receiving the prestigious award this year was local lady Marg Pestell.

Devoting years of volunteer service to the Harden Horse Trials as well as Young Pony Club, Marg is definitely a worthy recipient of the state award.

As current Secretary of Harden Murrumburrah Horse Trials, Marg is as passionate today about eventing and the equestrian world as she was when she began over 40 years ago.

Her dedication to all equestrian sports over the years has been astonishing, being directly involved with Equestrian Australia (EA) Eventing for over 20 years.

In 2006 Marg received a Medal of the Order of Australia and although the Eventing NSW award is not as prestigious, it was given by the committee as a small thank you, for the continued and generous contribution she has made to eventing in NSW.

Unable to attend the annual Eventing NSW award ceremony in Sydney earlier this year, well-known Harden rider Natalie Blundell accepted the award of Marg’s behalf.

The award was then officially presented to Marg at a recent Harden Horse Trials meeting by current Harden Horse Trials president Fabio Giacomin.

“This award is definitely long overdue and well deserved by Marg given the time and amount of work she puts in for us and for other equestrian fields.

“Marg has been a major part of the Harden Horse Trials since its inception over 25 years ago acting as secretary for all those years,” Fabio said.

“It’s wonderful recognition for a wonderful person who we (Harden Horse Trials) hold a high regard for, congratulations Marg.”

Marg’s association with the Young Pony Club includes two stints as president, between 1979-1981 and 1989-2004.

She has instructed children of all ages in the art and responsibility of horse riding and has been a Zone Two Chief Instructor since 1986. She has also been a Zone Two delegate of the Pony Club Council of NSW for the past 33 years.

Another important role that Marg took on was that of the inaugural president of Young’s branch of Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

The RDA group provides an invaluable service to the community and one that enriches and enlivens many people’s lives.
