THEY are happy to stay in the background and go about their work with a minimum of fuss. However it was only right that Tony and Marg Campbell were the centre of attention recently as they were afforded Life Membership of the Cootamundra Swimming Club with fellow club members Wally and Sue Parkinson.
Tony and Marg (with Wally and Sue), were there as the local club created a first when it hosted the NSW Regional Country Championships, a meet that would not have been possible without their input in the lead-up to the stellar event.
All four were busily running around with their respective chores and may have been oblivious to the fact meet director Anne Gammon had called a halt to proceedings during the morning session.
Gammon’s only hint as to what was to follow was that a significant announcement was to be made. Considering the number of high profile administrators from NSW Swimming who were in attendance, Tony, Marg, Wal and Sue, had every reason to believe the ‘announcement’ would be related to one of the big wigs.
