Jugiong’s big weekend

The second annual Jugiong Carpathon fishing competition held last weekend in Jugiong was an outstanding success in both the number entered and the number of Carp caught.

189 entrants registered for the event this year and took in 201 carp over the two days which was up on last years 122 people registered and 118 carp being caught.

The weather was perfect and the water levels at Jugiong were up which all helped to make for a great weekend of fishing fun for everyone.

This year’s prize for the biggest catch went to Michael Cross from Harden, taking the top honours from his wife Carol who took out the title last year.

Second place in the adult section went to Kevin Fairall and third place went to Robert Piper.

In the junior section first place went to Mitchell Stubblefield, second place to Adam Fitzpatrick and third place went to Taylor Parker.

The $250 interclub challenge sponsored by Bald Hill Quarries was won by the Jugiong Fishing Club by the narrowest of margins, 14mm.

The Biggest bag award went to Jimmy Grange with 19 carp caught.

The winner of the raffle for the Hobie Canoe was Michael Cross.

President of the Jugiong Carpathon Committee, Phil “Berkie” Bourke said, “The event ran like clockwork and everyone that attended brought along a great attitude which made for a top weekend. It was great to see so many families out enjoying themselves and big thanks must go to all the sponsors and everyone who pitched in to make the event such a success”.

“It just goes to show what can be done in Jugiong when everyone works together, together we can achieve great things for Jugiong”, he said.

President Berkie and Event Coordinator Trevor Brownlea were also given a special mention for all the hard work they put in, during the lead up to the big weekend.
