Young Lions call for soccer players

13 Jan, 2012 09:06 AM
HARDEN Murrumburrah soccer players are being invited to try out for the Young Lions Soccer Club Men’s squad this season.

The club is looking for new players this season and will begin their 2012 season with their first pre-season training session to be held at Gus Smith Oval today, Thursday, January 12, from 6pm.

Lions Coach Mark Mellish and Manager Brant Taylor are hoping to see both returning and new players turning out as the Lions look to put a disappointing 2011 season behind them and return to the form that has seen them become one of the most successful association teams in Western NSW football in recent years.

In 2012 the Lions will be looking at fielding two men’s teams - 1st grade (as per 2011) and a 2nd/3rd grade team for under 18s who have not played mens in 2011 and for those 18-45 plus who would like to play weekend football but may not be able to commit to two weekly training sessions and a game every weekend.

Any players (from a minimum of 15 years) from Young and surrounding towns including Harden, Grenfell, Cootamundra, Cowra and Boorowa are welcome to try out on January 12.

There will be another training session on January 19 when players will also be able to try out for the teams.

Players are being asked to bring football boots, shin pads, running shoes and a water bottle.

For more information please contact Coach Mark Mellish on 0412 495 397, email seniormens@younglionssoccerclub or look on Facebook (Young Lions Soccer Club).

The Young Lions Womens team are also looking at entering the 2012 season after not being able to field a squad in 2011. If you would like to play please contact Pat Dawe on 0409 762 183 or find us on Facebook.
