The season wrapped up for the Harden Under 7 sides on Saturday with a game each against the visiting Tumut Gold side. The Under 7A Harden Foodworks took on the Tumut 7A side and in a fast flowing game, came away with a 5-1 win. Goal scorers were the ever reliable Joei Whybrow (4) and Hayley Chesworth. Riley Huntly chased hard all game as did Bayley Minson and Loren Daley.

The Under 7B Southern Cross Rams side played Tumut 7B in their final match. Looking to finish their season with a win, things started poorly for the home team as they found themselves down two goals after just a couple of minutes. Their coach started to look anxious before the home team regrouped and fought back to level the scores at half time. The second half saw the Harden team play some of their best soccer of the season, scoring six unanswered goals to blitz Tumut 8-2 at fulltime. It was a fitting end to a great season with Clementine Flanery and James Collins into everything, and Clare Houghton and Darcy Fogg scoring well deserved goals. Mitchell Brown added six goals to his season’s tally, with Lexie Adam providing good support. The Under 7B side had a great year and are to be commended for their skill, sportsmanship, teamwork and friendship shown through out the season, both on an off the field.

What a fantastic season the Under 8 Harden Bearings & Hardware team has had. Although losing last week’s game, everyone has shown fantastic improvement this season. Zac Sommer has played best in a forward position. James Woodhead has been a fantastic player, showing fantastic footwork every game and scoring many goals. Clare Henman has enjoyed mid and forward this year setting up and scoring many goals. Gypsie Potts has proven herself to be a fantastic sweeper ensuring the ball was in our possession every time she played back. Max Spackman played his best game in mid position covering the field well and keeping the ball in our team’s half, also scoring goals for the team. Olivia Doolan shone in mid position helping backs and forwards wherever she was needed and scoring many goals for us this season. Jackson Douglass has shown great dedication to the game and played extremely well in forward position. Jessica Bunt has found her calling in forward position and shown great attacking skills this year. Dylan Menz has had his best games in back helping to keep the pressure on the opposition and showing great kicking strength when he connects with the ball. James Daley’s tremendous kicking power has kept the team in possession of the ball in many games when he has played his favourite position of back. Charlie Madden has improved immensely this year with some great attacking skills and speed to the ball in his best position of back. Annabelle Ryan has played well in both forward and mids showing some great skills in regaining possession of the ball.

The Under 9 HMA Twomey Patterson side suffered a close loss against Tumut going down 2-1. The Harden goal was scored by Jesse Manwaring. Grace Kemp had another great game as goalkeeper, only letting in two goals against many attempts. The team continues to work well together, offering each other support and we wish them the best of luck for the finals.

In our last game of the normal season, the Under 10 Garden of Roses team played Tumut Gold and lost 1-0. It was a really tough, grinding game at which all players working hard, never giving up. As coach, I was really pleased with everyone’s effort and work rate. Due to school commitments, the team was down three of our regular players, but fortunately Jesse Manwaring and Jakob Halls stepped up from the Under 9s and played fantastically. The players of the day were Hayley Whatman and Phoebe Douglas. We are all looking forward to playing the same team in this week’s knock out final and coming up with a different result!

The Under 12/13 Harden District Bowing Club side played two games on Saturday versus Tumut Gold. With four players absent and the second match against the number two side in the competition, it was always going to be a big day for the team.
The first match Harden won convincingly 7-2. The side held a comfortable 4-0 lead at halftime and then midway through second half, Tumut came back with two quick goals but the Harden side went up a gear and scored three goals in quick succession to put the match beyond any doubt.
In the second match Harden came up against the second placed team and in a very tight struggle eventually went down 2-1.
It was a seesawing match that Tumut dominated early putting a lot of pressure on the Harden defence and eventually scoring a goal that gave them a 1-0 lead half time. Harden picked up the tempo in the closing stages of the first half and then midway through the second half, Edward McGeoch came up with an outstanding goal that equalized the scores. Harden continued to attack and had many shots on goal but were unable to convert. With five minutes remaining it was Tumut who scored the winning goal. Despite the loss, it was a very good performance by the Harden side with many pleasing performances.
It is hard to single anyone out as all the team needs to be congratulated on their performance. However Clancy Potts, Emma James and Taylah Phillis deserve a special mention with Emma playing her best game of the season so far.
This weekend the semi finals will be played at Tumut with Harden having teams in four of the five grades.
