HARDEN’s Merrin Cup cricket team moved to the top of the competition ladder last Saturday at the Jim Doolan Oval with a convincing victory over the Big O Blues from Cootamundra.
Sent in to bat first, Harden began poorly losing their first three wickets for just eight runs.
Kai Steele and Matt Schofield then put their heads down to start some sort of a restoration. Matt went for 11 runs and, although not scoring many, Kai was holding Harden’s innings together.
When he was dismissed, the locals were six for 54.
It was one of those low-scoring matches it seemed. But bustling Jason Pollard had a slightly different approach - and that was all out attack.
He blasted a robust 26 runs, including two fours and a six that went down near the caravan park.
Tim Manchester, six, and Rob Scott, nine not out, completed Harden’s scoring at what seemed a lowly figure of only 85 runs.
Easily the best with Big O’s ball was Dean Bradley, who took six wickets for 19 runs.
In what was a carbon copy of their opponent’s batting start, Big O crashed to the opening attack of Rob Scott and Rob Barron. Barron’s one wicket and Scott’s removal of opening pair Meale and Dawe had Big O struggling for air at three for 11.
Another early wicket saw them needing oxygen and the captain Darren Connell was the repairman, along with Craig McTavish.
Darren contributed 13 and Craig 18. But at nine for 50 it was a forlorn hope.
When Josh Logue clean bowled Big O’s last remaining batsman they were all out for just 51 runs and Harden had made it six wins on the trot, winning by 34 runs.
Rob Scott was the best bowler for Harden, taking four wickets for only eight.
