A GREAT game of cricket graced Tim Doolan Oval, Harden last Saturday afternoon when two very formidable teams, Stockinbingal and Harden, met.
The luck of the toss favoured our local Matt Schofield and he had no hesitation in sending Josh Logue and Kai Steele out to face the Stock opening bowlers Nathan Corby and Scott Friend.
These bowlers met with stif resistance and the score quickly advanced to 29 before Steele went LBW to friend for nine runs.
Todd Elliott hit up a fast 15 before he had his stumps shattered with the score on 56.
Khalfan joined Logie and the score mounted. Logie went for the top score of 42 runs. And with Khalfan’s dismissal for a solid 20, Harden were four wickets for 101.
Tom Darmody then sauntered in all decked out in a luminous orange hat and for the life of me I thought he was the fifth Wiggle.
Wiggle or not, Terrible Tom terrified the bowlers, belting a splendid 36 with the bat.
Captain courageous Matt Schofield pushed the score along with 20.
Happy Harry Sachs was then exceptionally pleased to come to the crease. He didn’t have his four-ten shotgun this week. However after poking a sneaky single, Harry went bang, bang, bang hitting a succession of three fours in a row. He remained not out on 14 with Josh Quinn also not out on four.
At the conclusion of their 40 overs Harden had amassed 165 runs for eight wickets.
Jeremy Annetts began in fine style, but soon lost two partners and Stock were two for 34.
Nathan Corby put on 23 but then snicked a delivery from Josh Logue and was caught behind by Kai Steele.
Jim Mitchell joined Mark Annetts and the pair consolidated, taking the score to 137 with a great partnership of 71 runs. With their dismissals however, Stock failed to capitalize and lost their remaining four wickets for just 15 runs, giving Harden victory by the slender margin of only seven runs.
The destroyer for Harden was Rhyse Henman who from his 10 overs took four wickets for 34 runs.
