Harden easy winners over Cootamundra

23 Oct, 2008 01:55 PM
HARDEN was the first side to book a place in this season’s Twenty/20 final with an easy win over Cootamundra’s Big O line up at Tim Doolan Oval on Saturday.

With the visitors arriving at the ground with just nine players and none of them able to find form with the bat, Big O was bundled out for just 53 in the 14th over, leaving the home side with an easy run chase.

Jason Pollard was the star of the Harden innings, coming in at the fall of the first wicket and remaining unbeaten on 32 as the hosts needed less than eight overs to peel off the required runs.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, the Big O boys failed to produce partnerships of any substance.

Key batsmen Nick Heggaton, Darren Connell and Peter Louttit all fell cheaply to Jarrod Sharman whose 3-18 was the catalyst to restrict Big O to such a modest total.

Bill Stanley (3-4) bowled well to clean up the tail, while Keith Baird and Matt Schofield also snared a wicket.

Big O pinned their faint hopes of victory on the shoulders of quicks Dean Bradley and Berg, knowing they would have to penetrate early to be any chance.

While Berg removed Harden skipper Nathan Schofield in his second over, the Harden run rate was always a concern for the visitors and after six overs the result was a forgone conclusion.

Bradley did snare Kai Steele for 11, however Pollard and Stanley (7 not out) saw their side safely past the total to book a T/20 finals berth against the Globe Hotel on Friday, December 19.

This weekend is the first round of the season proper and Harden will travel to Cootamundra to take on Coota Hotel at Clarke Oval.
