The Harden Country Club Cricketers have qualified for their second successive Merrin Cup Grand Final to be held in Cootamundra this Saturday after thrashing the Central Hotel 1 team by 111 runs.
The massive win was largely due to a magnificent bowling display by inform local cricket legend, Simon Doolan who trounced the opposition by taking five wickets for six runs in eight overs.
Harden won the toss and elected to bat on the hallowed home turf of Tim Doolan Oval.
Rob Barron and Chris Hocking opened the innings for Harden, progressing well, taking the score to 33 before Hocking was caught out for just 9. Bill Stanley joined Barron, taking the score to 39 when Barron was caught behind for 15. Matt Schofield joined Stanley with this pair putting together an impressive partnership of 66 runs to put Harden in a solid position before Matt Schofield was out for a valuable 25 runs.
Jason Pollard was next to join Stanley, and the pair dominated the Central 1 bowlers.
The hard hitting Pollard played his typical game, smashing the ball all over the place.
Pollard eventually fell for a very commendable 44 runs, demoralising the opposition attack with the partnership yielding 71 runs. The real star of the innings was Bill Stanley, who batted for the majority of the innings, scoring 73 runs and in the process making sure Harden posted a massive score of over 200 runs. Stanley punished anything loose and will go into the decider in top form.
Simon Doolan contributed 8 and Andrew Jones 1. Kai Steele 19 and Craig Henman 2 both remained not out and Harden used up the 40 overs scoring a very impressive 7-223.
Central Hotel lost their first wicket at 19, with Jarrod Sharman claiming the scalp of Cronin when he bowled the opener for just 5 runs.
Stevens and Gale took the score to 51 when Matt Schofield bowled Stevens for 27. Schofield struck again with the score on 77 when Pollard took a brilliant leg-side catch behind the wickets to dismiss the dangerous Gale. Central were still in the game with Tim Wilson, Adam Twyford, Ian Coggan and John Coggan left to come.
But in a devastating spell of bowling, Simon Doolan put an end to the season of Central Hotel 1. Doolan bowled 8 overs, including four maidens to claim five wickets for just six runs.
Sharman returned to take the last wicket and thus wrapping up a convincing 111 run win for Harden. Matt Schofield added three wickets to his important knock of 25 runs to top off a great day for him. Rob Barron bowled well without luck bowling 7 overs for 23 runs.
Hardens overall effort on the field was impressive on a difficult outfield surface. Harden now prepare for a rematch of last years Merrin cup Grand Final against the fancied Big O, confident of reversing last years result.
