Harden Junior Rugby League has been successful in securing the top amount in the latest round of Volunteer Grants.
A total of $5000 has been allocated to the local club with club president Michael Quinn saying the money will be a great boost for junior league.
“This recent grant is wonderful for the club,” he said.
“There is a club meeting coming up and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of discussions on the funding, which could be used to help upgrade the canteen for our hard working volunteers.”
Also successful in this round of federal funding was Binalong Memorial Swimming Pool Association who were allocated $2990 in funding.
Federal Member for Hume, Alby Schultz said volunteer groups throughout the Hume electorate have received their fair share of funding in the latest round of Volunteer Grants.
“The latest round of Volunteer Grants was announced this week and I am very pleased to announce that 51 volunteer group’s shared in just over $161,500,” Mr Schultz said.
“The Volunteer Grants program, a continuation of the Howard Government’s Volunteer Service Grants program, provide grants of between $1000 and $5000 to non-profit organisations to purchase small equipment that will support their volunteers and encourage volunteering.
“This year, however, in recognition of the needs of today’s volunteers, the grants have been extended to include training.”
Some of the other successful groups include Cootamundra Meals on Wheels, $5000, Bribbaree Bushfire Brigade, $4800 and Young Polocrosse Club Inc, $4351.
“Volunteer Grants 2010 recognises the valuable work of Australia’s volunteers who are the backbone of so many of
our community groups,” Mr Schultz said.
“These grants are vital in assisting organisations in continuing their work and I congratulate them on being successful in this round.”
