Harden residents are being encouraged to show their community spirit and get behind Young’s upcoming Cherish Live concert.

The event, which is being staged at the Young Showground on March 27, is raising much needed funds to build a purpose built renal dialysis unit benefiting patients from Harden, Boorowa, Cootamundra and surrounds.

Getting involved with Cherish Live and showing his support is Harden Murrumburrah Mayor Chris Manchester.

“Unfortunately there is a need for a renal unit in the region and again it is up to the local community to help support and fund the project,” he said.

“Although Cherish Live is being staged in Young it’s a regional event and something I will be getting behind and I think all members of the local community should.

“The event has world-class performers coming and will be a great day out for all members of the family plus you will be in turn helping to support the funding of this much needed facility.”

At present people requiring kidney dialysis have to travel to Canberra three days per week, which can add up to a three hour round trip each time.

According to Kidney Health Australia the number of people with kidney failure is growing by six per cent each year, and recent data released from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that deaths from Kidney failure have increased by 133 per cent in the last three years, now ranking tenth on the leading cause of death list.

Cherish Live committee member Michelle Manchester said they are wanting as many people as possible travelling to Young for the concert.

“We need everyone to get behind this great event to help raise much needed funds to build a renal unit at the Young Hospital,” she said.

“We have a great line-up of acts including Evermore, Thirsty Merc, former Australian idol contestants Luke Dickens, Roshani Priddis, and Teale Jakubenko, as well as plenty of local bands.

“There will be full bar and food facilities available, as well as a courtesy bus from the Young Railway Station and free camping.”

Gates open at 11am and then the day will kick off at midday with concert goers treated to an amazing 10 hours of music and entertainment.

Tickets are $80 and can be purchased on the website by following the links through to the Moshtix website or at Young’s Telstra Shop, Sportspower and M & M’s.
