From humble beginnings on a picturesque property at Kingsvale, Bluestill distillery will be making a huge step forward in the very near future.
Purchasing the former JD’s Jam Factory at Young last month the Kingsvale distillery has been operating for the past decade producing a large range of top shelf items including whiskey, bourbon, vodka, gin and tequila.
Bluestill manager Steve Norris said when he looked at the former JD’s Jam Factory he said it was a site too good to pass up.
“Our products are sold by the three major warehouses in Australia and every independent liquor store in Australia has got access to our products, we are in every state except Tasmania,” Mr Norris said
Bluestill intends to eventually move all its distillery operations from Kingsvale to Young and will officially take possession of the property on July 23.
“We expect it will take around three weeks or so to refurbish and fit out the buildings to what we want them to be,” he said.
“We don’t want people coming in and saying that it is similar to what it was before - we want people to come up and say it is completely new.
Mr Norris said they plan to showcase and sell fine arts and unusual crafts hoping to source items from around the local area and across country NSW.
“There are a lot of talented people in and around Young and across country NSW and we hope to display and sell their items showing off the talents to the many visitors who we hope will be coming through our doors,” he said.
Mr Norris said there will be a restaurant opening up soon offering light meals and Devonshire teas throughout the day and at night there will be a steakhouse.
“We are currently in the process of getting a liquor licence,” he said.
“The people we have lined up to run the
restaurant are very keen and know the position here.”
“This new venture is a great continuation of our business and it’s a great spot to move to and it will give our products a greater exposure.”
Mr Norris envisages the new venture will bring a lot of extra tourism, buses and so on, into the district for the simple fact that there is not a distillery in every corner of Australia.
“Once they come to Young they will probably be looking around to see what else is around town,” Mr Norris said.
“This is a relocation from an out of town spot to what we consider is the best address in town.”
