The footpath upgrades and beautification works of the Murrumburrah shopping precinct are starting to take shape with the first section of the works in front of History Hall and the Museum now largely complete.
Council outdoor staff members have been hard at work removing the old bitumen surface and preparing the site before laying the new pavers.
Director of Technical Services, Mr Mark Crisp said the works have been progressing well, and everything is on track for an official launch of the upgrades to be held in late October or early November.
The $100,000 provided by the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program came with a requirement for the money to be allocated for a major community project before September this year. The funding has allowed for the work to commence on time with Harden Shire’s talented outdoor staff employee’s, many of whom are now well versed in laying pavers, carrying out the works.
Minor drainage issues have also been tackled along the way, and a lot of effort has gone into making sure the bedding for the pavers is right so the pavers won’t have to be lifted again at a later stage.
The first of the tree beds which will form a major part of the beautification of the area is nearing completion this week, and several of the footpath garden beds are starting to take shape.
The shopkeepers of Murrumburrah closest to the section of work being carried out have been kept in the loop, and where possible the disturbances have been kept to a minimum. The section of footpath leading to the front door of Twin Town Pizza and Kebabs was completed in time for the shop to open for its usual trading on Tuesday.
The Harden end of town has not been forgotten, with maintenance work starting on the swimming pool in preparation for the 09/10 swimming season. Anyone interested in doing lifeguard work should get in contact with the council.
