Major upgrade for the Men’s Shed

21 May, 2009 08:12 AM
Members of the Harden Murrumburrah Men’s Shed are pleased to announce that they have recently received an upgrade with over $6000 worth of equipment recently being purchased.

The purchase of equipment has been made possible with funding coming from their scrap metal drive as well as grant funding and a donation by the Kruger Trust.

The Men’s Shed is now well equipped to do most jobs in the woodwork department for members, and for anyone from the community in need of help with a wood-working project. The Men’s Shed also has a very well equipped metal shop which is also taking shape.

Men’s Shed steering committee member, Phil Webster said that the equipment is there waiting to be used by members of the Harden Murrumburrah Men’s Shed and a recruitment drive is on to boost the numbers of members to put the equipment to good use.

Men of all ages are invited to come along to be a part of the Men’s Shed to have a look around the facilities and checkout the new equipment which includes a timber thicknesser, drop saw, band saw, scroll saw, bench plane and bench sanders just to name a few. They would also love to have some members who have skills on workshop equipment such as lathes to help others learn the basics and safety aspects.

At the Men’s Shed, members can work on their own projects, be involved in any club projects, or just come down for a chat and a cuppa.

Phil said, “we would like to remind the public that the Men’s Shed is ‘your’ shed and all are welcome, don’t put it off, the next time that you have some spare time come to the Mens Shed, it’s the place to be, see you there.”

Recently members of the Men’s Shed have completed a project for the Murrumburrah P&C association, designing and constructing two sets of small tables and chairs for the kindergarten children to use in the school’s library. Chief designer Gordon Smith said, “it’s great being able to give something back to the community and we hope to do a lot more of it in the future”.

After a lot of hard work by the current members, the Harden-Murrumburrah Men’s Shed is nearing its official opening.

The Men’s Shed is open every Tuesday from 10am till 5pm, Thursday, 1pm till 5pm and Saturdays, 1pm till 5pm at the Railway Institute Building, East St Harden.
