The gates of the Harden Murrumburrah War Memorial Swimming Pool were finally open to the public at the re-opening ceremony held last Friday.
The much anticipated re-opening held on the last day of summer, saw a good turn out of locals who had come to see the completed project.
Despite all of the hype surrounding the pool renovation project the re-opening ceremony proved to be very low-key and lacked any real fanfare, besides the large inflatable crocodile tethered in the middle of the pool that proved a big hit with the kids. The Mayor and General Manager were noticeably absent as was any notable ribbon cutting official. There was a brief welcome and opening by Councillor Mark Douglass who thanked some of the people who helped work on the project. The Harden Swimming Club did a fantastic job serving up sausages to the large crowd that had assembled for the re-opening. The increased depth of the pool which should prove favourable to the water polo players, saw a few of the smaller kids clinging onto the sides of the shallow end. The now deeper
shallow end, means that kids need to be a few years older (or at least taller) than previous years to stand up with their heads above the water.
With the weather set to be hot for Saturday and Sunday the re-vamped pool should see large crowds again this weekend.
