Interest in the Harden Murrumburrah area as a place to visit, has grown substantially in the last couple of years and it seems that visitors are starting to pick up on what many locals already know, we live in a beautiful part of the world.
The Movie “September” which was filmed locally last year highlighted just some of the strengths the area has in the way of picturesque locations. With the many historic buildings in the shire, the quiet country roads and the backdrop of rolling hills and clear skies the area is quickly grabbing the attention of other filmmakers and photographers.
Recently David Barrow from filmcentral nsw made a visit to the area to see what the local area has to offer. David’s job was to take photographs of local buildings and scenery that could be useful in upcoming films and television programs. Filmcentral nsw coordinates the search for film and television locations throughout an area that covers approximately 35 percent of inland NSW, which embraces 22 Local Government Areas.
The goal of filmcentral nsw is to encourage greater use of the region’s locations for film and television production as a vehicle for economic development.
Financial support for filmcentral nsw is also provided by the NSW Department of State and Regional Development (DSRD).
Their website www.filmcentralnsw.com offers an extensive location gallery plus a searchable local film support services database, which lists skills, services and facilities available to assist film and television production in each Local Government Area.
The attraction isn’t just limited to filmmakers. This weekend a group of photographers from the University of Sydney’s Centre for Continuing Education will make their way to town for a photography weekend.
14 students will accompany teacher Robin Nichols, an experienced photographer and presenter on an intensive photographic tour of the local area. Robin is the founding editor of Digital Photography and Design Magazine, editor and publisher of Better Digital Magazine and creator of Better Photoshop Techniques Magazine. Robin said, “ I was looking for an out of town address to try a workshop, and Stephen Byrnes who owns the Barnes building in Murrumburrah suggested the area, and as it happens, the area looks to be full of interesting stuff, with not a lot of traffic in between.”
The tourism potential that our unique locations and history has to offer is something that needs to be embraced... if only we had a dedicated tourist information centre to help harness that potential... but that’s another story.
