The plans for the streetscape improvements for Albury Street, Murrumburrah between Lyons and Vernon Streets have now been finalised and have gone on public display.
The plans were first shown to the Councillors at the conclusion of last Wednesday’s Council meeting in their confidential section before being released for public viewing.
There are two sets of plans for consideration being Design Option 1 which includes Architectural Plans and Design Option 2, which are Harden Shire Council’s engineering plans. Council currently have both proposed streetscape improvement plans on display and community input into this process is very important and submissions are currently being invited for consideration.
The plans show off a totally different look for Murrumburrah and include a number of innovative solutions for the footpath areas including a deck in front of the P&D store in Murrumburrah and outdoor seating areas in front of the Commercial Hotel and Terracotta Restaurant.
Tony Buckler from the P&D Store said that he has had a look at the plans and he likes elements from both design options. “Its really going to make it look like the town is happening and will make a positive impact on the town, which is just what we need in these tough economic times”
“It all ads to the place and I think the outdoor staff and the Shire should be congratulated for the fantastic work they have done in improving the look of the place with all the footpath and corner upgrades over the last 18 months”, Tony said.
John Wade from the Commercial Hotel said the proposed improvements to the streetscape in Murrumburrah are a great start. “It’s just one of the activities that show our new Council is listening to the community and making the changes that will attract visitors and new residents. The paved footpaths, tree planting, street furniture and outdoor tables will soften the look of the town and encourage people to stop. They can wander through the shops, cafes and monuments here, and find out about the other attractions Harden Shire has to offer”, John said.
“To match the upgrade that the Council is doing, we’ll be continuing the renovations at the Commercial Hotel, and gradually repainting and repairing the façade”, John said
The plans can be viewed at The Old Sewell Building, Albury Street Murrumburrah, The Harden Library and the Harden Council Chambers. Additionally there will be two open days at the Old Sewell Building Murrumburrah where staff will be available to answer any questions regarding the streetscape improvements. These dates are 1pm - 4pm Monday, June 29, and 9am to 12pm Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
If you have something that you would like considered in relation to the improvements, please provide your suggestions in writing to the Harden Shire General Manager, prior to 5pm, July 15, 2009.
