High speeds detected on Hume

The Cootamundra Local Area Command highway patrol officers were busy over the weekend, in particular on the Hume Highway.

A number of vehicles were detected travelling well in excess of the speed limit, with drivers clocked travelling at 180km, 165km, 161km, 152km, 151km, 147km, 143km, 140km, 138km & 136km.

The driver speeding at 161km occurred in a 90km zone.

Another driver was caught driving on the Hume Highway at Mundarlo doing 183km in a 110km zone and was also detected with a mid range level of alcohol in his blood. The 23-year-old driver from Wagga was arrested and supplied a breath analysis reading of 0.105. He was issued with a Field Court Attendance notice and will appear at court on a date to be fixed.

Police remind drivers their highway patrol teams are dedicated do reducing injury on our roads and will enforce the road rules across the command.

In a separate incident at the weekend police attended a vehicle fire at Wallendbeen.

At about 11.30am Sunday a 41-year-old man from the ACT was driving his Blue Ford Falcon along the Burley Griffin Way at Wallendbeen when the vehicle backfired.

The car was stopped where it caught fire shortly after.

Fortunately the driver and his two passengers were uninjured but the vehicle was totally destroyed and later towed to Temora.
