IT was Wombat's time to shine on Thursday afternoon as their locals united for the village's annual Australia Day celebrations.
The day began at 9am with market stalls and a street parade before the official ceremony at 1pm where select citizens were acknowledged for their contributions to the Wombat Progress Association, Wombat Public School, Wombat Social Club and the village church group.
John Daley was recognised for his ongoing commitment to the village through his work with the Progress Association, his involvement with the Village Social Club and his long involvement with the Bushfire Brigade.
Vanessa Lane: for her work over many years as Wombat Primary School P&C president.
Lois Bloor was acknowledged for her commitment to the community through the Wombat Words newsletter, Wombat Public School and the Progress Association. Mrs Bloor was unable to be at the awards presentation so her praise was accepted by Matt Bloor.
All three were presented their Wombation award by Harden Shire mayor Chris Manchester and Australia Day ambassador James Pittar.
Young Wombation of the Year went to Meghan Bailes-Carson for her initiative in raising money for charity through the screening of the outdoor movie at the oval late last year.
Sienna-Rose Bloor had her achievements in the sporting arena celebrated after being named Junior Sportsperson.
Sienna-Rose represented Wombat Public School at the Riverina Sports Carnival where she broke a high jump record that had stood for more than 30 years. Then she was selected to represent the region at the state level where she gained third place in high jump for 13-years girls.
Cr Manchester congratulated all award winners and thanked them for their tireless efforts.
