02 Feb 12 | A GREAT game of cricket graced Tim Doolan Oval, Harden last Saturday afternoon when two very formidable teams, Stockinbingal and Harden, met. The luck of the toss favoured our local Matt Schofield and he had no hesitation in sending Josh Logue and Kai Steele out to face the Stock opening bowlers Nathan Corby and Scott Friend.
02 Feb 12 | THE Harden Gun Club is holding a working bee on Sunday, February 12 and all help would be greatly appreciated. The club has been maintained over the Christmas break by some dedicated workers who have kept the grass and weeds at bay.
02 Feb 12 | DAVID Walker has shown a clean set of heels to beat his rivals by at least two shots in this week’s round of the Harden Summer Golf Comp. Loving the course drying out, David has rallied pars and bogeys at every corner to say goodbye to that old handicap and ably assist his team to consolidate second place.
02 Feb 12 | ON Australia Day last Thursday the club conducted a mixed triples afternoon and there was a very good attendance 34 bowlers. It was the first time that bowlers have had a chance of having a game since the green was renovated and it has come back in great order. It was a job well done by our greenkeeper Neil James.
Jugiong Swim Club marks 40 years
02 Feb 12 | THE Jugiong Swim Club held a family fun day on Saturday, January 28, to mark 40 years since the formation of the club. The day was family orientated and everyone got into the spirit of the day, to have fun. With a great crowd turning out for the celebrations it meant lots of fun with age races, relays, the much awaited competition with the belly flop of the day.
Australia Day in Wombat
02 Feb 12 | IT was Wombat's time to shine on Thursday afternoon as their locals united for the village's annual Australia Day celebrations. The day began at 9am with market stalls and a street parade before the official ceremony at 1pm where select citizens were acknowledged for their contributions to the Wombat Progress Association, Wombat Public School, Wombat Social Club and the village church group.
02 Feb 12 | MAGGIE-Kate Minogue says she has always wanted to become a doctor and she now has the chance to become one after being accepted into university to study medicine. Maggie-Kate will shortly begin studies at the University of New South Wales where she will be studying for a bachelor of medicine and a bachelor of surgery.

02 Feb 12 | HARDEN Murrumburrah is gearing once again for another dramatic Harden Gold Trail Festival to be held at the Murrumburrah Show ground from 11am on Sunday, April 15. The feature event of this third festival will be the re-enactment of a tale from the district’s rich local history, the Battle of Wallendbeen. There will be great horsemanship on display as local riders display their skills in the re-enactment.
02 Feb 12 | OWEN Davison has been named Harden Murrumburrah's Citizen of the Year at this year's Australia Day celebrations. Owen was named Citizen of ther Year for his work as a volunteer driver for Flexible Care Services Inc. Since 2001, Owen has been driving local residents to medical appointments in the region and further afield to places such as Syndey Canberra and Wagga Wagga.
26 Jan 12 | ZORRO used to raise his cap when he hit 50. This time is not with the flashing willow, but after feeling jubilant on receiving 50 Christmas cards this year from you, the readers. Thanks for responding in such a fine fashion.
26 Jan 12 | THE second half of the touch football competition kicks off when school returns next week and the first games will be played on Wednesday, February 1 due to the MHS twilight swimming carnival being held on Thursday, February 2. Right from the kick off games will count towards final placings in the competition and are not just an opportunity for everyone to dust off the boots and settle back in as in past years.
26 Jan 12 | LOCAL bowlers Tom Apps and Rod James were in outstanding form last weekend when they played at the south west open pairs at the Coota Country Club and also at the Coota Ex Services Club. The pair won their five games to finish with a margin of 50 shots to take out the second prize of $600 finishing just four shots behind the winners, Dave Quigley and Peter Watts of the Young Club.
26 Jan 12 | ROD Ceeney has shown the field what he has been doing in his retirement by converting his golf practice prowess into points in round five of the Harden Country Club summer golf competition. A sizzling 41 off the stick for a nett 30 has ensured that Rod’s eight points were just enough to beat the rest. Ably supported by John Hawkins’ return to form and Geoff Bates and Dave Walker’s solid rounds has meant that the Delta Debateables are still in the lead bunch and not back in the pelaton.
Brennan's XI returns to Wombat
26 Jan 12 | A WOMBAT cricketing tradition is set to be revived in February when a team known as Brennan's XI will play an invitational Wombat XI. The match is being put together by Mark Brennan, who now lives in Temora but whose family originally came from Wombat.
Children's art and craft at Jugiong
26 Jan 12 | THIRTY two children attended Jugiong’s very successful Children’s Art and Craft Day, which was held at the Jugiong Hall on January 11. Joan Raddatz, the Hut Gallery, thanked Sandra Simpson for her teaching of the beads and wool work and all six helpers who gave up their day for the children.
Bendigo backs Jugiong brigade
26 Jan 12 | THE Jugiong Volunteer Bushfire Brigade has received $4,000 sponsorship from the Harden Murrumburrah Bendigo Bank to help it cover the cost of buying and equipping a catering trailer for use during fires and at local community events. Harden Bendigo bank manager Ralph Hawkins said that as the Bendigo Bank was a community bank it had a policy of investing in community infrastructure.
26 Jan 12 | THE Harden Murrumburrah Camera Club is holding a photographic competition and exhibition at the Murrumburrah Court House from Friday, March 9 until Sunday, March 11.
26 Jan 12 | HARDEN Shire Council is currently developing its 20 year community strategic plan which will be aimed at reflecting the way those living in the shire would like to see their community as a place to live in 20 years time. Council wants to engage with the community to produce a plan that reflects community views and is owned by the Harden Shire community.
